Hello Lot 22 supporters,
Sorry it has been such a long time since we have made contact.
Unfortunately, at present, there is nothing concrete that we are able to report back to you with. But since I often get approached in the street and asked what is happening, I know many of you are still interested to know what is going on.
Basically, council is mulling over a large number of things, and we are part of the log jam. BSC have asked for EOI’s (Expressions Of Interest) on a number of council owned sites, as well as running masterplan sub committees for Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Bangalow. They are also in process with both the old hospital sites in Mullumbimby and Byron Bay. Members of the Social Habitat Housing committee are involved in a number of these EOIs and proposals. Therefore it is simultaneously annoying that these things take so long, while we also understand and appreciate that Byron Council is juggling a lot of balls at the same time.
We have not been idle. We have been in meetings and discussions with councillors and stakeholders. We recently had a meeting with state government MLA Ben Franklin, who was very supportive of our concept.
Many of you will be aware that there is a movement opposing the SHH proposal. This is predictable and to be expected. Opponents will be bringing up many unsubstantiated claims on why this option to bring much needed affordable housing to Mullumbimby is unworkable. We will be prepared to answer and refute these false claims at the appropriate time.
As soon as we have something more substantial from council to relay to you we will make a time for another meeting.
Look forward to seeing you then.
On behalf of Social Habitat Housing
